In Touch ministries
Dr. Stanley served on the staff of First Baptist Atlanta for over five decades.
Dr. Stanley founded In Touch Ministries in 1977.
His sermons, podcasts, and devotionals reach over 115 million homes per week in more than 126 countries around the world, according to In Touch Ministries.
Dr. Stanley authored more than 60 books, including several New York Times bestsellers, and was inducted into the National Religious Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1988.
He is survived by his children, daughter Becky and son Andy, who is the founder and senior pastor at Northpoint Ministries. Dr. Stanley was 90 years old at the time of his passing.

Mindfulness for Christians
After doing some research, I believe Christians may engage in this practice, albeit carefully. Mindfulness and Meditation originate with false religions such as Buddhism and are widespread in New Age practices.
What is Mindfulness? It is the human ability to be aware of what we are doing.
What are its advantages? Practicing mindfulness is recommended by mental health doctors to help us live in the present moment. It brings more peace to our minds and increases awareness.
As Christians practice mindfulness, they should pay attention to God and not wholly to themselves; herein lies the difference from secular meditation, which puts the focus entirely on SELF. The basis for Christian mindfulness is the fact that God is present.
Its practice can remind us to turn our attention to God in the details of our daily lives. Learning to live mindfully can provide us with more peace, joy, and gratitude in our walk with God.

Using your five senses, make note of the things you can see, feel, hear, smell, and taste. As you notice the things you can sense, give God thanks for each one of them. Being grateful for all of God’s good gifts can assist with eliminating negativity and depression.
- Read and meditate on Bible verses.
- Focus on the present moment. Personally, what I do is take one day at a time—meaning I let the past go; and I plan for, but don’t worry about, the future.
- Take care of your body (God’s temple).
- Regarding emotions, pay attention to how you feel. Be aware of thoughts such as of anxiety, stress, and anger, and label them. Then, ask yourself why you are feeling this way and let the emotions go. Remember that these are just thoughts, not facts. Instead of believing a particular thought; observe it neutrally.

S – Scripture
Read a short Bible passage out loud and/or write it out. You may discover something new.
O – Observation
Examine the text; what do you see in the verses you’re reading?
- What words stand out to you most in the passage?
- Who is it written by?
- Who is the audience?
- What is the main lesson or theme?
- What seems interesting or unusual?
- What comes before and after the text?
- Is there repetition, comparison, or contrast?
- Notice the kind of biblical literature this is part of.
- Identify the style of literature being used.
- Notice how this relates to the theme of the book.
- Notice the immediate context, especially the paragraph.
- See if this is an addition, a development, a cause and effect, a pivot, a contrast, a comparison, or a parenthesis.
- Notice the significance of each word.
- Identify any key word(s).
- Relate each word to the one before it and after it.
- Notice the phrase each word is in.
I – Interpretation
Interpretation is asking: what does this Bible passage mean, particularly to the first audience? Although we can understand some of that by simply reading the passage, the correct interpretation won’t always come naturally. How do we interpret? First we can look at the immediate Bible passage context; then, the verses or chapters before or after may give us more understanding. The Bible book as a whole will, as well. But sometimes we still won’t know enough to understand and interpret properly. Bible dictionaries, encyclopedias and commentaries are key to interpreting correctly. Meaning studied, learned scholars of the languages and history.
A – Application
Apply God’s Word to your life in a practical way.
This is the part where you personalize your study of Scripture. As you read over the text, how does it apply to you? Is there a specific action you need to take or a confession you need to make?
If it’s an action, try to make it SMART: specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound.
Application, more notes:
- Make the intention of the author applicable to us today.
- Apply interpretations, not observations.
- If you cannot interpret it, don't apply it.
- Don't ignore the author's intent just because it offends our culture.
- Claim promises if, and only if, they are for all believers of our age.
- Keep commands if, and only if, they are for all believers of our age.
- Apply examples and commands, but don't let examples negate commands.
- Remember: one interpretation, many applications.
- Apply, but don't perform, personal commands.
- Application is to our own personal situation.
P – Prayer
Pray that the Scripture you just studied will take root in your heart and produce good works. If something has been revealed to you from God’s Word, pray about it. Confess any sin that has been revealed during this time of study. Praise God for His attributes and thank Him for His Word and His goodness in your life. Also, ask the Holy Spirit to help you in discipleship, and for strength and courage to help you apply these truths.

A – Adoration
“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” (Revelation 4:11)
Start your prayers with praise. Praise God for who He is. Worship Him and acknowledge His greatness. Praise keeps your eyes fixed on God.
C- Confession
Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. (Proverbs 28:13)
Tell God you're sorry for where you've fallen short, where your actions haven't lived up to His expectations, where you haven't done something you should have. Then ask for forgiveness and for help to do better next time. Consider what you've done and left undone. God is ready to forgive you and apply His grace and mercy, but you first need to confess and ask for forgiveness.
T – Thanksgiving
Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. (Psalm 107:8-9)
Give thanks to God, the Giver of all good gifts (James 1:17). It is His will that we give thanks in all circumstances (1 Thess. 5:18).
Tell God "thank you" for His work in your life. Give thanks for all His blessings bestowed upon you. Gratitude helps shift our thinking from what’s wrong to what is right.
S – Supplication
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6 – 7)
Ask God for specific requests for yourself and others. Share what's on your heart, and where you need the Lord's help, guidance, and healing. Pray about the needs of others.

The Five Steps:
Give thanksgiving. Relish the moments the went well and all of the gifts I have today. How has God blessed me?
Ask for the Spirit. Request the Spirit to lead me through this difficult soul-searching, to avoid denial or self-pity.
Review and recognize failures. Review my day; where have I failed in big ways or small?
Ask for forgiveness and healing. Repent of any mistakes or failures. Ask also for wisdom to discern how I may handle such issues in the future.
Pray about the next day. Resolve, in measurable ways, to live tomorrow well. Ask for strength not to fall into the same temptations.

Mathematically speaking, two quantities are in the Golden Ratio if their ratio is the same as the ratio of their sum to the larger of the two quantities.
What is the value and how was it inferred? 1.618, a mathematically irrational number, is considered to be the golden ratio (also called golden mean, divine proportion, etc.). How was this value discovered? Centuries ago, genius minds started observing patterns in the surrounding nature. From the leaf arrangement in plants, to the pattern of the florets of a flower, the bracts of a pinecone, or the scales of a pineapple--everything had the same pattern. And the arrangement goes 1, 2, 3, 5, 8,13, 21, 34 and so on: The Fibonacci. When you start calculating the ratio of fibonacci number with its previous fibonacci number, we end up with something like 1.61803… an irrational number. Rounded up to 3 decimal places, 1.618 is the golden ratio. What was naturally pleasing to the eyes, this number now is used to create proportions for architecture, paintings, sculptures, photography, design etc. Close window
