Second Life is a 3D, virtual-reality community; the software can be downloaded free on your desktop or laptop computer here:  secondlife.com/support/downloads/  ​

imvu

IMVU is free VR software for desktop.  Many features (including rooms) are now available on the mobile app for iOS.  Although mainly a social/chat and role-playing site, I enjoy decorating and roaming around the virtual worlds "rooms".  Also like creating avatars on the mobile app, found here:  itunes.apple.com/us/app/imvu-1-3d-avatar-social-app/id919745844?mt=8
